Level 4 Therapeutic Counselling

This is the final step on your journey to become a fully qualified counsellor. You’ll spend two years part-time immersed in a learning community. On successful completion, you’ll be a trained and qualified counsellor and you’ll be eligible to join a recognised professional membership body such as BACP, NCPS or ACC. You’ll become experienced in working with clients within a counselling agency, gaining 100 ‘client’ hours of this work as part of the course. The in-depth study at this level will support your personal development and professional skills, getting you ready to move into a career as a professional counsellor. You might choose to seek employment as a counsellor or support a wide range of health and social care roles, including management, mentoring and support, advocacy and work in the mental health sector.

This course takes an Integrative approach to counselling and is based in the Relational Developmental approach of Richard Erskine, placing the relationship at the heart of the therapy and working to meet relational deficits through attuned contactful therapeutic interventions.

Why to do this course:

This two-year part-time qualification gives learners the knowledge, skills and competencies to work as a therapeutic counsellor in an agency context in both health care and non-medical settings, and is delivered in a blended format with some live online lessons and majority of in person lessons.

Successful completion of this course means you will be able to provide a therapeutic counselling service – initially within the context of an agency’s service framework but later (with experience and support from the supervisor, or by completing PC-L5 or its equivalent), you may progress to independent practice.

You will be given the option to complete the BACP Certificate of Proficiency during the course and achieve both your Level 4 Diploma and BACP Registration within the course.
